Centro Ubuntu

Pros: We enjoyed our stay at Centro Ubuntu. The location is ideal with private beach access just a few steps from the room. The cabaña was clean, comfortable and well equipped with mosquito nets, towels etc. The restaurant on site makes tasty food and has some Vegetarian options. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We were given a nice welcome, detailed insights on Ubuntu and the island and the possibility to book activities. We were also kindly allowed to leave our luggage before and after check in.

Cons: On the day of our departure, weather conditions meant the transportation company couldn’t pick us up on Isla Grande and we had to stay an extra night. That was obviously nobody’s fault. At first, we were told that Ubuntu might be able to host us for another night at a “good discount” to help us out. Later, management declined this and it was then communicated that the maximum discount would have anyway been 10% on consumption only (which is already very reasonably priced). Since the room at Ubuntu is 3x the price of similar cabañas nearby (without beachfront), we went looking for an alternative place. We were offered significant discounts everywhere we went, as the island was essentially empty since no new guests could arrive. We decided to move, and were surprised about the fact the place where we had stayed and eaten every single meal for four days was the only one charging us full price. Centro Ubuntu highlights community as one of their core values. Community is not what we felt upon leaving.

Great location and great people

Pros: The location and the people are exceptional always paying attention . Kids friendly.The rooms are comfortable despite the limited access to resources. The eco- concept is also valuable.

Cons: While playing the « eco » card comes at cost, the value for money is not favourable . Noise from neighbouring bar (music during the day, generator early morning)

A place to detox and rewind.

Pros: This is the place to relax. It’s not posh but it is authentic. We lived the fact that there was a kindergarten as well. The staff are friendly and helpful. Sebastian was fantastic. Loved our trips especially snorkelling.

Cons: If you want sir conditioning - don’t come here

Pros: The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. There were lots of great activities to do.

Peaceful eco-friendly retreat in stunning nature

Pros: Ubuntu is a really special place. The location is gorgeous with beautiful views of the sea, a lovely deck for sunbathing, a small private beach to get in the water and lots of eco-friendly activities. We enjoyed spontaneously seeing the luminescent plankton at night! The team and staff are all very friendly and helpful. Delicious food too! Our room was comfortable with fans and mosquito nets, a porch with a hammock and seating and a wonderful outdoor shower.

Cons: Nothing.

Amazing stay on an island paradise

Pros: Loved the stay, very well maintained and clean, extremely helpful staff, beautiful setting and incredible food. Thank you!

Pros: Nice place and quiet. Some people of the staff were very friendly, like the guy who helped us with the luggage at our arrival and the ladies in the kitchen. The room was nice and clean with a nice view.

Cons: The door of our room opened very easily even when locked, with the wind, a little push so at night it might not be very safe, especially having loads of stray dogs living on the island and coming to the entrance of the lodge at night. Moreover on our last night we heard some shouting in Spanish coming from a lodge, which contributed to not feeling so safe at night.

Peaceful and beautiful

Pros: Beautifully located by the sea, Ubuntu has a subtle luxury that can be appreciated by nature lovers. It’s low key friendly atmosphere made us feel very comfortable straight away. Of course sleeping just a few meters from the sea in good beds and crisp linen also helped. 😀

Cons: I guess we have some concerns about the eco concept. The place clearly has great ideals and ideas, but certain things, like the use of concrete slabs many places seems unnecessary for a eco place. However, we are sure there are reasons for the choices, and we didn’t stay long enough to figure out what is was.

Beautiful and friendly island vibe!

Pros: Has a quiet, local family island vibe including chickens and dogs walking around. Beautiful view. Super friendly staff! Eco friendly set up. Quiet, good location on the island, nice kitchen.

Cons: As in description and good to know: there’s no electricity in the huts except for a fan and light. You can charge phone safely at the reception.
